Our Story

In 2005 Danny McCubbin, then principal of Northern Hills Christian Academy, took what he thought was a wrong turn, but what God knew was the start of an amazing journey.

Mr. McCubbin was visiting local churches when he got lost and ended up at Life Christian Academy (LCA), a K-8 school providing biblically-based education for over 3 decades at River of Life Church. While at LCA, Danny reconnected with his former teacher, Jeff Baird, who was acting as LCA Athletic Director and Assistant Principal. Mr. Baird and Mr. McCubbin began visiting, and discussions quickly turned to a shared burden to start a Christian high school in the Northland. In January 2006, Mr. Baird and Mr. McCubbin formed a committee of six LCA parents and six Northern Hills supporters. The group met, prayed, discussed, planned, and held meetings with interested parents. Within seven months the Lord brought 25 high school students for the first year of Northland Christian High School (NCHS). During that time Mr. Baird transitioned to be a youth pastor at Harmony Vineyard and served as the acting administrator at the high school. Northland Christian High School found its first home at Harmony Vineyard.

In January 2007, Richard Rice, after 30+ years in education, became the full time principal. By May of 2007, River of Life Church began discussions with the NCHS school board to fuse LCA and NCHS into one independent preschool through 12th grade school system. NCHS board members stepped out in faith, and the fusion of the two schools was completed within 90 days to create Northland Christian Education System (NCES).

Since 2007, NCES has graduated hundreds of students, moved to a new facility, and expanded elementary campuses with a current enrollment of more than 450 students. We are so excited to see where God takes us next.

Our history reminds us of God’s great provision and love. Thanks be to God, who gets all of the glory for building Northland Christian Education System and reaching His children with Kingdom Education.

Statement of Beliefs

  • We believe the Bible to be the inspired, the only infallible, authoritative, inerrant Word of God (2 Timothy 3:16, 2 Peter 1:21).

  • We believe there is one God, eternally existent in three persons—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.  (Genesis 1:1, Matthew 28:19, John 10:30).

  • We believe in the deity of Christ (John 10:33), His virgin birth (Isaiah 7:14, Matthew 1:23, Luke 1:35), His sinless life (Hebrews 4: 15, 7:26), His miracles (John 2:11), His vicarious and atoning death (1 Corinthians 15:3, Ephesians 1:7, Hebrews 2:9), His Resurrection (John 11:25, 1 Corinthians 15:4), His Ascension to the right hand of God (Mark 16:19), His personal return in power and glory (Acts 1:11, Revelation 19:11).

  • We believe in the absolute necessity of regeneration by the Holy Spirit for salvation because of the exceeding sinfulness of human nature and that men are justified on the single ground of faith in the shed blood of Christ and that only by God's grace and through faith alone are we saved (John 3:16–19, 5:24; Romans 3:23, 5:8–9; Ephesians 2:8–10; Titus 3:5).

  • We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; they that are saved unto the resurrection of life, and they that are lost unto the resurrection of condemnation (John 5:28–29).

  • We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ (Romans 8:9, 1 Corinthians 2:12–13, Galatians 3:26–28).

  • We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a godly life (Romans 8:13–14; 1 Corinthians 3:16, 6:19–20; Ephesians 4:30, 5:18)

Statement on Gender, Marriage and Sexuality

  • We believe that the term "marriage" has only one meaning, which is marriage as created and sanctioned by God in which God joins one man and one woman in a single, life-long, and exclusive union, as delineated in Scripture. (Genesis 1:27-28, 2:18-24; Matthew 19:4-9; Mark 10:5-12; Ephesians 5:31-33).

    • In accordance with Northland’s stance on immorality, children whose parent(s) cohabit(s) with another (outside of marriage as Biblically-defined) will not be considered for enrollment.

  • We believe in the sanctity and the preservation of human life, which begins at the moment of fertilization, and that any material cooperation in the termination of unborn human life is sin (Ps. 139:13-16; Isaiah 44:1-2 and 49:5; Job 10:8-12; Jeremiah 1:4-5; Luke 1:39-45).

  • We believe that any form of sexual immorality is sinful and offensive to God. Sexual immorality includes, but is not limited to adultery, fornication, homosexuality, lesbianism, bisexual conduct, bestiality, incest, pornography, and attempting to change one's biological sex or otherwise acting upon any disagreement with one's biological sex. (Exodus 20:14; Leviticus 18:6-23; Deuteronomy 5:18; Matthew 5:27-28, 15:19; Romans 1:26-27; 1 Corinthians 6:9-13; Galatians 5:19-21; 1 Thessalonians 4:3-8; Hebrews 13:4).

  • We believe that God offers redemption and restoration to all who confess and repent from their sin, who seek His mercy and grace, and humbly ask for His forgiveness through Jesus Christ. (Matthew 11:28-30; John 3:16-18, 14:6; Romans 10:9; 1 Corinthians 10:13; Ephesians 2:1-10; Hebrews 2:17-18, 4:14-16).

  • We believe that every person must be afforded compassion, love, kindness, respect, and dignity. Treating anyone contrary to these principles is unacceptable and not in accordance with Scripture or the policies of Northland Christian Education System. (Matthew 7:12; Galatians 5:22-25; Ephesians 4:2-6; Colossians 3:12-17).

  • To maintain Christian unity, all Northland employees, volunteers, independent contractors, parents and students must agree to abide by Northland’s Statement on Gender, Marriage and Sexuality. Failure to do so will result in removal from Northland Christian. (Matthew 18:15-20; 1 Corinthians 5:9-13; 2 Corinthians 6:14-17).
