Our Story

In 2005 Danny McCubbin, then principal of Northern Hills Christian Academy, took what he thought was a wrong turn, but what God knew was the start of an amazing journey.

Mr. McCubbin was visiting local churches when he got lost and ended up at Life Christian Academy (LCA), a K-8 school providing biblically-based education for over 3 decades at River of Life Church. While at LCA, Danny reconnected with his former teacher, Jeff Baird, who was acting as LCA Athletic Director and Assistant Principal. Mr. Baird and Mr. McCubbin began visiting, and discussions quickly turned to a shared burden to start a Christian high school in the Northland. In January 2006, Mr. Baird and Mr. McCubbin formed a committee of six LCA parents and six Northern Hills supporters. The group met, prayed, discussed, planned, and held meetings with interested parents. Within seven months the Lord brought 25 high school students for the first year of Northland Christian High School (NCHS). During that time Mr. Baird transitioned to be a youth pastor at Harmony Vineyard and served as the acting administrator at the high school. Northland Christian High School found its first home at Harmony Vineyard.

In January 2007, Richard Rice, after 30+ years in education, became the full time principal. By May of 2007, River of Life Church began discussions with the NCHS school board to fuse LCA and NCHS into one independent preschool through 12th grade school system. NCHS board members stepped out in faith, and the fusion of the two schools was completed within 90 days to create Northland Christian Education System (NCES).

Since 2007, NCES has graduated hundreds of students, moved to a new facility, and expanded elementary campuses with a current enrollment of more than 500 students. We are so excited to see where God takes us next.

Our history reminds us of God’s great provision and love. Thanks be to God, who gets all of the glory for building Northland Christian Education System and reaching His children with Kingdom Education.

Mission Statement

NCES partners with Christian families and churches to provide a God-centered, discipleship-based school with academic excellence and a biblical worldview, equipping students to serve and influence our world for Christ.

Vision Statement

NCES instructs students how to learn, love, and lead the world to Christ.
“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.” Mark 12:30

“My prayer is that graduates of Northland Christian Schools know not just who they are, but whose they are.”

— John Elliott, School Board Chairman

Core Values

Commitment to Exemplary Education –
It is the purpose of NCES to offer an exemplary education based on biblical values to the children of Christian families, equipping them to be lifetime followers of Jesus Christ.

Reverence for God’s Word – The Bible is Truth and has the power to train and transform. Since all wisdom comes from God, lessons for every subject area are based on His word. Academic excellence is found by humbly asking God to guide our teaching.

Imitation of Christ – We are called as a community of believers to be disciples of Christ and to imitate him in the way we live. Growing in godly character is foundational for our school and for our students’ future. The reality of God’s grace leads us to an everlasting attitude of thankfulness and humility.

Commitment to the Church – Believing the body of Christ is the expression of God’s Kingdom to a lost world, we support the Church by encouraging involvement of our families and teaching students the importance of active participation. We seek to build relationships with churches as we partner together to help people know God and make Him known.

Development of Servanthood – We seek to develop an atmosphere where service is not something we do but rather a part of who we are. Students, staff, and parents are presented with opportunities to use the gifts God has given them to serve one another and to reach beyond our school with Christ’s love.

Support of Families – God’s plan is for the family to have primary responsibility for training up children for the Lord. We desire to partner with parents in the education of children and to support the family by reinforcing God’s design of and for the family.

Statement of Beliefs

  • We believe the Bible to be the inspired, the only infallible, authoritative, inerrant Word of God (2 Timothy 3:16, 2 Peter 1:21).

  • We believe there is one God, eternally existent in three persons—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.  (Genesis 1:1, Matthew 28:19, John 10:30).

  • We believe in the deity of Christ (John 10:33), His virgin birth (Isaiah 7:14, Matthew 1:23, Luke 1:35), His sinless life (Hebrews 4: 15, 7:26), His miracles (John 2:11), His vicarious and atoning death (1 Corinthians 15:3, Ephesians 1:7, Hebrews 2:9), His Resurrection (John 11:25, 1 Corinthians 15:4), His Ascension to the right hand of God (Mark 16:19), His personal return in power and glory (Acts 1:11, Revelation 19:11).

  • We believe in the absolute necessity of regeneration by the Holy Spirit for salvation because of the exceeding sinfulness of human nature and that men are justified on the single ground of faith in the shed blood of Christ and that only by God's grace and through faith alone are we saved (John 3:16–19, 5:24; Romans 3:23, 5:8–9; Ephesians 2:8–10; Titus 3:5).

  • We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; they that are saved unto the resurrection of life, and they that are lost unto the resurrection of condemnation (John 5:28–29).

  • We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ (Romans 8:9, 1 Corinthians 2:12–13, Galatians 3:26–28).

  • We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a godly life (Romans 8:13–14; 1 Corinthians 3:16, 6:19–20; Ephesians 4:30, 5:18)

  • Gender, Marriage, Sexuality - The biblical and philosophical goal of Northland Christian School is to develop students into mature, Christ-like individuals who will be able to exhibit a Christ-like life. Of necessity, this involves the school's understanding and belief of what qualities or characteristics exemplify a Christ-like life. While enrolled at Northland Christian School, all students are expected to exhibit the qualities of a Christ-like life espoused and taught by the Bible and to refrain from certain activities or behavior. Thus, Northland Christian School retains the right to refuse enrollment or to expel any student who engages in sexual immorality, to wit, any conduct or espousing of belief which is inconsistent with the Biblical sanction of God for sexual intimacy only between one man and one woman in the marriage relationship. (Leviticus 20:13, Romans 1:27).

  1. We believe that the term "marriage" has only one meaning, which is marriage as created and sanctioned by God in which God joins one man and one woman in a single, life-long, and exclusive union, as delineated in Scripture.

  2. We believe that any form of sexual immorality is sinful and offensive to God. Sexual immorality includes, but is not limited to adultery, fornication, homosexuality, lesbianism, bisexual conduct, bestiality, incest, pornography, and attempting to change one's biological sex or otherwise acting upon any disagreement with one's biological sex.

  3. We believe that in order to preserve the function and integrity of the Northland Christian Education System, commitment to traditional education in a Christ-centered environment, to act as a faithful and local component of the Body of Christ, and to provide Biblical instruction and modeling to the System's students, faculty, staff, families, and the community, it is imperative that all persons employed by Northland Christian Education System in any capacity, who serve as volunteers, or independent contractors, should abide by and agree to our Statement of Faith and to this Statement on Gender, Marriage, and Sexuality and conduct themselves accordingly.

  4. We believe that God offers redemption and restoration to all who confess and repent from their sin, who seek His mercy and grace, and humbly ask for His forgiveness through Jesus Christ.

  5. We believe that every person must be afforded compassion, love, kindness, respect, and dignity; behavior or attitudes not displaying compassion, love, kindness, respect, and dignity which are directed toward any individual are unacceptable, must be repudiated, and are not in accordance with Scripture, or the policies of Northland Christian Education System as reflected in our Statement of Faith.
